چکیده

We present a collection of skeletons that are appropriate to instantiate process systems in the functional-concurrent language Eden BLOM96]. Eden is a functional language providing facilities for the explicit deenition and instantiation of processes. Skeletons in this language are just higher order functions having process deenitions as parameters. We introduce skeletons for both transformational (i.e. deterministic) and reactive (usually non deterministic) process topologies and illustrate their use by applying them to several examples. Some comparisons to the skeletons literature are also established.

The Impact of Dynamic Channels on Functional Topology Skeletons

Parallel functional programs with implicit communication often generate purely hierarchical communication topologies during execution: communication only happens between parent and child processes. Messages between siblings must be passed via the parent. This causes inefficiencies that can be avoided by enabling direct communication between arbitrary processes. The Eden parallel functional lang...

Eden - Parallel Functional Programming with Haskell

Eden is a parallel functional programming language which extends Haskell with constructs for the definition and instantiation of parallel processes. Processes evaluate function applications remotely in parallel. The programmer has control over process granularity, data distribution, communication topology, and evaluation site, but need not manage synchronisation and data exchange between proces...

Deriving Non-Hierarchical Process Topologies

Eden is a parallel functional language which extends Haskell with new expressions to define and instantiate processes. These extensions allow the easy definition of parallel process topologies as higher order functions. Unfortunately, by only using process abstractions and instantiations it is not possible to implement non-hierarchical topologies, as processes can only communicate with its pare...

Graph-based Communication in Eden

We present a new approach to the definition and creation of process topologies in the parallel functional Haskell extension Eden. Grace (Graph-based communication in Eden) allows a programmer to specify a network of processes as a graph, where the graph nodes represent processes and the edges represent communication channels. Thus, the specification and creation of complex communication topolog...

Explicit and implicit parallel functional programming: concepts and implementation

This thesis investigates the relation between the two conflicting goals of explicitness and abstraction, for the implementation of parallel functional languages and skeletons. Necessary and useful coordination features for implementing parallel coordination in a functional implementation language will be identified, leading to the proposal of a Haskell extension for explicit low-level coordinat...
